We stayed at a hotel around two miles out of the Old City. We were looking for the kind of food everyone said we would find in Baku. We stumbled across Hayat Kabab - and it is wonderful. Delicious food - try the Lula potatoes (little parcels of potato heaven!). Tea is served in traditional pots with sweet accompaniments. The staff speak a little English and there is an English translation on the menu. Yes, it is a little way out of the Old City but it is very much worth a visit. Prices are reasonable, ambience perfect.

Hayat Kebab is really the end point that you may experience in Kebab making; more than 10 types of different kebabs, each with its special taste, texture and shape!! Hayat club (closed to the main place) has family-freindly private rooms with fantastic library, TV, and romantic photos on walls... must see and eat Prices are reasonable and relatively low.
